Andy Knill Art is the work of Swanage-based artist Andy Knill, creating distinctive artwork inspired by the landscapes, coastline, wildlife, architecture and everyday life of Purbeck and Dorset.

Andy began keeping sketchbooks in 2015, initially as a way of switching off from his work as a teacher. After moving to Purbeck, he began developing his artwork into a small independent business, with his first sales coming in 2017. His work has continued to grow from those early sketches into a diverse collection of original drawings, prints, cards and other artwork.

A strong sense of place runs throughout Andy’s work. Familiar Dorset landmarks such as Old Harry Rocks, Corfe Castle, Swanage Bay, Durdle Door and Anvil Point appear alongside less conventional viewpoints and personal observations of the local landscape. His work also reflects his interests in boats, wildlife, trees, architecture, coastal activities and the changing character of the places around him.

Based in Swanage, Andy Knill Art is as much about enjoying creativity as it is about selling artwork. Andy’s Art for Funactivities encourage people of all ages to pick up a pen and have a go themselves, reflecting his belief that art can simply be something enjoyable to do, without the pressure of producing a perfect result.

Today, Andy continues to create throughout the year while running his own studio and shop in Swanage. His work offers visitors and local residents the chance to take home a little piece of Dorset—from original artwork and fine-art prints to accessible postcards and greetings cards.

Andy Knill Art is a celebration of drawing, creativity and the places that make Purbeck special.

From this, his philosophy is ‘Art for Fun’, and he runs an activity (£0.50 cost each) encouraging others of all ages (11 to 5231 weeks) to try drawing and see how they feel doing it. His activity runs year round either indoors or outdoors, since Sept. 2021 he has hosted 5300 individual drawing sessions.
