DESCRIPTION:The Purbeck Film Festival was founded in 1996 by a group of cinema enthusiasts working with Purbeck District Council and the Rex Cinema\, to mark the centenary of cinema. What began with 21 screenings and an audience of 1\,700 has grown into one of the UK’s most cherished rural film festivals. \nToday\, the Festival presents over 100 films across unique venues from village halls and Durlston Castle to outdoor screenings beneath the stars at Corfe Castle attracting an audience of 8\,000 and welcoming distinguished guests including Dame Maggie Smith and Sir Mark Rylance.

DESCRIPTION:One of the world’s most famous steam locomotives is coming to Swanage Railway this autumn as part of our 50th anniversary celebrations. \nFrom Friday 23 October to Sunday 1 November 2026\, visitors will have the rare opportunity to see the world-famous Flying Scotsman in the beautiful Purbeck countryside. Owned by the National Railway Museum\, this iconic locomotive has captured the imagination of generations and its visit promises to be one of the highlights of our anniversary year. \nWhether you’re a lifelong railway enthusiast\, a family looking for a memorable day out\, or simply keen to experience a piece of railway history\, there will be plenty of opportunities to enjoy this very special event. \nAcross the ten-day visit\, Flying Scotsman will be on static display on selected dates\, allowing visitors to admire the locomotive up close and take in every detail of this engineering masterpiece. On other days\, it will be hauling passenger trains along the full Swanage Railway line between Swanage\, Harman’s Cross\, Corfe Castle and Norden\, offering the unforgettable experience of travelling behind one of Britain’s greatest steam locomotives. \nStatic display days will take place on 23\, 26\, 27\, 30 and 31 October\, while steam-hauled passenger services will operate on 24\, 25\, 28\, 29 October and 1 November. \nBookings for this highly anticipated event will open in mid-July\, with a range of ticket options available. Tickets available on selected dates from 28 November to 24 December 2026. \nThere’s lots of Christmassy shows and performances at the Mowlem Theatre during December including a Christmas Singalong with Bournemouth Concert Brass\, a stage show of all the time Christmas classic Scrooge\, a streaming of André Rieu’s 2026 Christmas Concert and more. \nChristmas events at Durlston Country Park include a Glass Engraving Workshop\, a Children’s Activity Christmas Trail\, Festive Park Run\, Children’s Craft sessions and more. \nChristmas Street Market – A traditional Christmas Market run by Swanage Rotary – Saturday 5 December 2026. \nLighting Up Lives Illuminations on Swanage Pier – Lighting Up Lives returns for 2026 on 5 December 2026\, from 5:30pm. \nFestive Fun days take place at Swanage Pier on the 12 December and 20 December 2026. Prices start at £32.50 per person. \nChristmas and New Year Breaks \nThe Pines Hotel and the Grand Hotel Swanage offer Christmas and New Year breaks by the sea. \nEscape from the Christmas Crowds \nMarvel at the magnificent scenery of Swanage Bay with Old Harry Rocks to the North and Peveril Point & Durlston to the South. The Victorian pier is open for a leisurely walk for a small ‘strolling’ fee. You can imagine that you are one of the characters from E.M.
